Research on the Aging Properties of HTPB Propellant under Vacuum

Abstract The space environment has high vacuum, rapid temperature alternations and other extreme conditions, which can affect the energy, ignition rate performance of solid propellants in environment. In order to obtain aging HTPB propellant, this paper investigates propellant vacuum compares it with atmospheric pressure, analyses oxidative cross-linking, degradation chain scission “dehumidification” behaviour based on mechanical properties, cross-sectional state infrared spectra before after aging. research results show that anhydrous under prevents occurrence is basically only affected by cross-linking reaction, where reaction slow. properties breaking strength increases slightly first stage, later stage aging, was intensified due decomposition AP, increased obviously compared initial value. Under atmosphere, mainly early increased. OA moisture absorption, showed an opposite trend decreased. addition, obvious phenomenon occurs inside more a vacuum.
